The last fatal duel fought in Canada took place in Perth along the banks of the historic Tay Canal part of the Rideau waterway system in June of 1833.  This summer marks the 175th anniversary of this battle over the reputation of one of the town’s fair maidens and will be marked by a number of special events and a theatrical presentation surrounding this tragic, although romantic event.  Today the site of the dual is called Last Duel Park and includes a campground and municipal docking centre.  The pistols used are on display at the local museum.  Visit www.perthcanada.com more details if you’re cruising in or driving by.
