On the Rideau Canal, Captain Lance Gervis-Read is putting the final touches on converting his 30 foot vintage 1940 cruise boat, Chuckles, to all “electric” power.  A new electric motor supplied with “juice” from a battery bank is replacing the old diesel fuel combustion engine.  Now passengers taking the popular waterway tour from Chaffey’s Lock to Jones Falls will be gliding along silently in the eco-friendly cruiser which will add significantly to this unique canalling experience.  It wasn’t about saving on rising fuel costs, says Captain Lance, it was just the right thing to do for the environment.  Visit www.rideauboattours.com
